What is a professional organizer?

Why should I hire a professional organizer?
Because sometimes you just need that non-judgmental person that can help you stay focused through your project. Because a professional organizer can give you some fresh ideas and solutions to your specific situation that you wouldn’t have thought on your own. Because you feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to start on your own. Because you may not have the time to do it on your own and an extra set of hands will help you complete the project quicker.
Do you organize the space for me?
The short answer is no. I want to get to know you better so together we can develop systems that are tailored to your lifestyle. You are also the decision maker in the process. When we are done with the project you’ll be the one maintaining and tweaking the systems we put in place. I really want to have the opportunity to transfer some valuable skills for you to be able to maintain your systems going forward.
Once I get to know you better there are things I can organize without you being part of the process. I do recognize there are special cases and I am willing to discuss so please call me to talk about it.
How long will it take?
Unfortunately there is no cookie cutter answer to this question. It depends on how quickly you make decisions, how much space we are organizing, your willingness to complete work in between sessions and how much work you complete in between sessions among other factors. Every project is unique to the individual or family. I am happy to support you at whatever pace is most convenient for you.
How long are the organizing sessions?
I prefer to work in 3 hour blocks. This allows us to really get going on your project. After making decisions and moving things around for this period of time productivity and enthusiasm levels drop as fatigue starts setting in.
Will I be forced to get rid of items?
Never. I know that TV shows like Hoarders and Hoarders: Buried Alive portray organizers as being forceful about getting rid of stuff but in real life it doesn’t happen that way at all. You are the decision maker. You decide whether something is valuable and purposeful in your life. If you decide to let go of the things that you no longer find relevant I will be happy to assist you with the resources to dispose of them or find them a new home.
Should I buy supplies?
No, please don’t. This is a common organization pitfall. When the time comes we will discuss what, if anything, is needed. In the mean time we’ll just need some trash and recycling bags.
What are your rates?
Rates vary from $45 to $55 per hour depending on how many hours you purchase. Please visit the services page to see the packages available.

I offer hands-on organizing in the Central Massachusetts area which includes Worcester County.
