My husband says: “You can do anything with the right tools”. When you have the right tools and systems in place the job at hand goes much smoother. The same can be said about having the right tools and systems in place to do the laundry. I shared with you 3 tips to make laundry easier and 7 steps to declutter and organize your laundry space. Now I am sharing with you 7 laundry essentials and some convenient items that will make your laundry routine much more efficient.

7 Laundry Essentials
1. Laundry detergent
Make sure you are using the right kind of detergent for your clothes and the right amount. More is not better when it comes to laundry detergent. If you have an he washer you may need less detergent than the recommended amount on the bottle. I like having one detergent just for our delicates too.
2. Dryer balls
They are reusable and do not contain harsh chemicals and fragrances unlike dryer sheets. Dryer balls help separate clothes so the hot air flows more efficiently through them during the dry cycle. They soften clothes and reduce static cling. If you are concerned about the environment opt for ecofriendly wool dryer balls.
3. Laundry basket
A laundry basket makes it much easier to carry loads around. I am partial to the ones curved to carry at the hip. This really comes in handy when I am carrying a load of laundry but need the other hand available to pick up or carry other stuff.
4. Ironing board and iron
Ironing is my least favorite task when it comes to laundry but a necessary one (for some clothes). Take advantage of the vertical space to store both the ironing board and the iron. We use this wall mounted piece to hold both the iron and the ironing board. I take advantage of the hooks to hold a lint roller and the fuzz remover.
5. Drying rack
My favorite one is the IKEA Grundtal wall mount drying rack. It folds down when not in use.
6. Lint roller
These just make it easy to quickly remove any hair, lint or fur from clothes before they go in the wash. Tie a pretty ribbon to the handle and hang it somewhere convenient.
7. Mesh bags
They work great to keep certain garments segregated in the washing cycle. Mesh bags specifically for bras make it easy to wash bras without the straps getting tangled on other garments and without loosing their shape. I prefer the double-sided bra bags.
Bonus Tools to Consider
These may not be essentials but they sure make a difference in the laundry routine.
1. Laundry additives
My favorite is Fresh Wave. It’s made of natural ingredients and works great to remove the lingering stinky odor from exercise clothes.
2. Folding board
I bought one because I wanted to try it out for myself so I can give clients an honest review. I don’t save much time folding laundry when I use the folding board. What I really like about it is the even and consistent fold for t-shirts. Being able to fold my clothes in the same size and form makes it easier to fit in my drawers. If you store clothes on a shelf then using a folding board for your shirts may be convenient because they come out even and stack nicely. I love using my folding board and I am not sure I’ll ever go back to not using one.
3. Step stool
I found that having one right next to the washer and dryer makes it extra easy for me to reach the items I need on the top shelf and it also makes it extra easy to restock them when I need to. I usually recommend having a step stool in the laundry room. If you have kids having a step stool available makes it easier for them to get involved in laundry duties too.
A steamer is great for those garments that are difficult to iron but need wrinkles removed. It’s also good to refresh some garments in between uses.
5. Dry cleaning kit
Comes in handy for those few dry clean only items. I make it a point not to purchase dry clean only items but I still have one or two pieces around. Having a kit at home is more convenient for me rather than driving somewhere and then having to pick it up.
